Poem:The Hunger Beyond the Plate
As you’ve just read, the journey through trauma and mental health challenges is a deeply personal and often difficult one. Sharing my story isn't just about recounting the past—it's about reaching out to others who may be walking a similar path. But I know that delving into these topics can stir up powerful emotions, and I want to acknowledge that.
If you found yourself feeling triggered or overwhelmed by what you've just read, I want you to know that it's okay to feel that way. These are heavy topics, and they can bring up a lot of pain. But I also want to offer you a moment of peace, a space to breathe and find comfort.
Below is a poem that I hope will serve as a balm for your soul. It’s written with the intention of bringing you solace, offering a gentle reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is light to be found. Let this be a pause, a place where you can rest and gather your strength before moving forward.
You sit in silence, hunger deep, But not for food, nor rest, nor sleep. It’s a craving, quiet yet loud, Emotions masked by a hungry shroud. You’re not alone in this strange fight, Many have wandered through the night, Seeking comfort in a snack, But finding emptiness staring back. It’s not the crisps, or cakes, or bread, It’s something deeper in your head. A void that food just can’t fulfil, Yet you’ve been feeding it at will. But listen close, here’s what’s true— This hunger doesn’t define you. You’re not broken, not too far gone, You’re just human, craving to belong. The trick is learning when to pause, To ask yourself the hidden cause. What’s beneath this endless bite? Maybe it’s love, or peace, or light. So drop the guilt, the heavy load, You’re walking down a healing road. Together we can break the chain, No more eating to numb the pain. With mindfulness, you’ll find your way, Step by step, day by day. You’re not alone in this strange quest— You’re on the path to feeling your best. And when you stumble, when you fall, Remember—you’re worth it, through it all.
I know how heavy emotional hunger can feel, like an invisible weight you carry with you, one that no amount of food, work, or distraction seems to lift. You’re not alone in this. Many of us have been there, grappling with those cravings that aren’t about what’s on the plate but about what’s missing inside. The journey to healing is messy, but it’s also possible. If today’s post resonated with you, if it stirred something within, know that it’s okay to feel vulnerable, to question, and to seek help. There’s no shame in wanting to heal, to fill that emotional void in healthier, more meaningful ways. Together, we can break the cycle.
Closing Thoughts:
Remember, healing is a journey, and it’s okay to take it one step at a time. If you ever feel like the weight is too much to bear, reach out to someone who can help lighten the load. You're not alone, and there is always light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how long the tunnel may seem.
Thank you for allowing me to share this space with you. Be kind to yourself, today and always.
